ALLYSA GRACE

JAZZ / RNB / SOUL _________________________________SINGER / PIANIST / VIOLIST

ABOUT

“Allysa Grace's music is an intriguing blend of jazz, soul and prog-rock, with songs that often descend into what feel like free-form jams. Grace's stage presence is strong, and she addresses the crowd with an affable ease that belies the complexity of her music... Grace's keyboard is the centerpiece instrument, with bassist Ben Bradshaw often taking lead excursions on his five-string bass.”
- Ethan Ames of The Deli Magazine

Allysa Grace has had the opportunity to be a part of many amazing musical projects thanks to her upbringing in Austin, Texas. The music community raised her through the orchestras as a violist; in RnB groups as a vocalist; and with her favorite local artists as a keyboardist. These different musical experiences have inspired her to front her own group.

Her band is reminiscent of your favorite soul artists, but her experience draws you to her worldly roots. This beautiful combination of neo soul, jazz, and raw talent will blow you away.

Now based in Berlin, Germany, she plays shows with her band and other projects in Germany. Allysa also participates/organizes in community groups across the globe. She currently teaches piano, when she isn't on tour with chicano rock group Tito and Tarantula.

A multi talent arranging orchestras for Berlin’s new A Song For You gospel choir, touring the EU and opening for Stevie Wonder and Nik Hakim

KECHOU

NORTH AFRO POP _________________ SINGER / PRODUCER

ABOUT

KERIM BECKER (composer, multi-instrumentalist, writer, producer) aka Kechou, of Algerian-German descent, was raised in the buzz of Berlin by an Algerian musician and studio owner and a German early day feminist and writer. He has been studying African Music for a number of years, and has produced and performed with different jazz-infused hip hop and Afro-fusion experiments in Germany, and different parts of Africa. For more context, read here.

He represents a collision and merger of two worlds not easily combined without friction and tension, creating harmony in his expression and innovative creative process. Building live loops, fusing organic acoustic hand-made instruments with electronic sounds, he creates hypnotic healing rhythms and grooves that hit the spot.

He has written a multitude of songs with various stylistic influences, gained significant skills in music production, has a broad cultural knowledge around musics in Europe and Africa and plays multiple instruments (Guitar, Gumbri, Bass, Ukelele, Oud, Dingi Dingi, Dundun (Talking drum), Callabash (percussion), Asalato (shaker), Djembe, Conga, Synth, Chitende/Uhadi (musical bows), Mbira, Timbila and Voice). All these skills are subject to continuous work and growth.

Multi instrumentalist, producer, and instrument builder, Kechou, is a wonderkind of Berlin’s intercultural scene

DUMAMA

AFRO FUTURIST / SPIRITUAL JAZZ / FOLK ___________ COMPOSER / SINGER / POET

ABOUT

Gugulethu Duma (aka Dumama) is a musician / composer / sonic poet / creative producer from the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Her practice plays with the deconstruction and critique of archaic modes of representation in Southern African/African sonic and performance culture, while also composing music for herself and others. As a storyteller and lyricist she weaves together childhood songs, stories and personal memories with electronic hues and gestures, experimenting with the divide between traditional oral culture and futuristic, globally oriented poetics in her embodiement of an African technological consciousness.

The debut album from her music duo, dumama + kechou, titled ‘buffering juju’ was released in March 2020 (as the international lockdown for COVID-19 started) with South African Independent Label, Mushroom Hour Half hour. Rooted in improvisation, she predominantly works with voice, uHadi (a traditional Xhosa bow instrument), live vocal effected loops, processors, field recordings and distortions for her performances and compositions. Their short film, Mother Time premiered with Pan African Music. She studied under celerated bow master, composer and vocalist Dr Madosini Lathozi before receiving a full Erusmus Scholarship to study a Masters in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage.

Her work has been presented at cultural institutions and festivals such as SAVVY Contemporary, Gropius Bau, Humboldt Forum, Boiler Room x Total Refreshment Center, Zeits Mocaa, Oyoun Kultur NeuDenken, Berlin Xjazz, Berghain Kantine, Chimurenga, KONJO and many other curated events around South Africa, Senegal, Berlin and USA.
